Obituary for John David McHone

John David McHone
MCHONE, JOHN D., JR – age 73, born August 31, 1940, completed his joyous journey and received his reward on Sunday, March 16, 2014, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He loved his family, listening to Bluegrass Gospel, playing his guitar, and growing his “famous” tomatoes – to share with his family and friends. The McHone Family traveled for many years singing God’s Praises. He was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from Plasti-Line, Powell, TN in 2002. Preceded in death by his father, John McHone; his mother Ethel McHone; sisters Ithel Capps, Pauline Perkey; brother J L McHone; bother-in-law, James Perkey; nephew, Eddie Perkey; niece, Brenda Capps Smyth; father-in-law and mother-in-law Earl and Opal Bates; brother-in-law, Clifton Bates; nephew, Shannon Bates. Survived by his loving wife of 45 years Velma “Sweetzie” Bates McHone; Daughters and Sons-in-Law, Delores and Wayne Newcomb, and Angela and Harold Weaver; Grandchildren, Shelly Brooks, Nicole and Timmy Newcomb; Sister, Helen (Carl) Burnette; Brother, Sherman McHone; Brother-in-Law, Frank Capps. Sisters-In-Law, Ina (John) Smith, Loretta (David) Staley, Kat (Gordon) Reynolds and Wanda Bates; Brothers-in-Law, Denny (Cindy) Bates, and Sheldon (Sharon) Bates. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Raymond Brigg and the staff at Tennessee Cancer Specialists, who held our hands and offered support and showed us all love during our journey with Dad, they became part of our extended family. We would, also, like to thank Avalon Hospice and Willow Ridge for the loving care they gave during Dad’s last days, and to Rondo’s for all the special baked potato and hot fudge brownie runs that made Dad smile. To our friends, there are many of you, we have no words that could express our gratitude but from our hearts we say Thank You for being there for us. We are blessed more than we deserve. We thank you for your love, phone calls, visits, but mostly for your prayers without God there would not have been “Joy in the Journey”. Family will Receive Friends Thursday, March 20th at Union Missionary Baptist Church 5 pm to 8 pm, Funeral Service to follow at 8 pm, Rev. Jack Walker, Rev. Jamey Patterson, Rev. Dallas Harrell officiating. Pallbearers will be: Wayne Cole, Jimmy Mathis, Jr. Weaver, Leonard Weaver, Bill Wood, Jeff Wood, Special Pallbearer will be Timothy Newcomb.
