Obituary for Garland "Jack" Monroe

Garland “Jack” Monroe-age 85 of Knoxville went to sleep to be with his Lord, Jesus, Tuesday morning, July 25, 2017 at U. T. Medical Center. He was a member and deacon of Sulphur Springs Primitive Baptist Church, Birchleaf, Virginia; U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean War; retired employee of A. T. & T. with 39 years service. Preceded in death by son, Jackie Monroe; mother, Beulah Owens Monroe.

Survivors: wife, Maxie Raley Monroe, Knoxville; daughter, Vicki Lambert, Knoxville; son, Greg Monroe, Maryville. Granddaughter, Dr. Elizabeth Lambert of Virginia.

Funeral service 7 P.M. Thursday, July 27, 2017, Cooke-Campbell Mortuary Chapel, Elder Eugene Wilder officiating with singing of Amazing Grace by the congregation. Family and friends will meet 9:30 A.M. Friday at the funeral home to proceed to Pleasant View Cemetery, Maynardville for a 10 A.M. interment. Pallbearers: Nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knoxville Primitive Baptist Church, 5529 N. Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37918 and/or Hubbs Grove Baptist Church, 330 Hubbs Grove Road, Maynardville, TN 37807. Friends may call at their convenience and sign the register after 10 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.

Everyone who met him liked him. Each one close to him loved him and he loved them. To his family, he was beloved and cherished. God put his finger on him the day he was born and said, “You are my good servant.” And so he was.
