Obituary for Benna Frank VanVuuren (Moyers)

Benna Frank Moyers Van Vuuren of Luttrell, December 19, 1931- January 17, 2021. Benna passed away late Sunday night in her sleep, peacefully. She has just turned 89 years old last month. She traveled much of the world in her lifetime, she was brave and fearless. Teacher, Principal, and Supervisor for Knox County Schools, she also founded an Internation School in South Africa, a private school, Van Vuuren Academy in Union County, and the Knox County Museum of Education which is housed in the Historic South High School in South Knoxville. She is survived by her daughter, Laura O'Donnell and two sons, Stephen and Michael van Vuuren, as well as grandchildren, James and Lisa O'Donnell and Karen Rice and her great-grandchildren and now a great-great-grandson, also nephews and nieces and their children. She leaves behind a legacy of love. There will be a celebration of her life in one year. Her ashes will be laid to rest in Moyers Cemetery in Powell Valley, Tennessee in March.
