Obituary for Daniel Harlon Korth

Daniel H. Korth, age 60, of Maynardville, TN passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, July 9, 2020.
Dan was born on June 16, 1960, in Minneapolis, MN, to Otto H. and Shirley Korth. When Dan was 4 the family moved to Cedar Rapids, IA. They returned to Minneapolis in 1967 where they lived through Dan’s junior high years. In 1974 they moved to Dover, Ohio, where Dan graduated from high school in 1977. During his high school days Dan was active in tennis, cross-country, ski club, choir, theatre, yearbook, speech, and slide-rule. He even won the World Slide Rule Champion Award his senior year!
Dan attended Wittenburg University for his freshman year of college. In 1978 his family moved to Knoxville, TN. Dan eventually followed and enrolled in the University of TN where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence degree from the UT School of Law in 1996. He began his law career working for the 8th Judicial District Defender’s Office before he began private practice as a defense attorney in 2007.
Dan was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Knoxville. He had a solid faith and relationship with God. His passions in life included music, reading, politics, travel, disc golf and sports. He was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan and a talented piano player. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and researching his German and Norwegian genealogy.
Dan had an infectious smile and sunny disposition which endeared him to everyone he met. When you met Dan Korth, you know you just met a friend for life! Dan was an attorney, a father, a brother, a son, and a wonderful friend to most who met him. Dan found a light in every person he met. So many considered him as a friend or a best friend. Dan had a big personality. Describing him in a short sentence is almost impossible. He was loving, selfless, and most importantly a very faithful Christian. He is preceded in death by his mother Shirley Wright-Korth, his grandparents, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his three children Raleigh, Sydney, and Clayton Korth (known to his dad as “Augs” or “Auggie”) of Maynardville, father and step-mother Otto and Nancy Korth of LaGrange, Georgia, sister Valari Korth-Burts of Milbank, South Dakota, nephews Joshua and Shane Burts of Addison, Texas, niece Jenna Burts of Bristol, Tennessee, and the mother of his children, LeAnn Hurst Braden of Maynardville, Tennessee. He is also survived by many, many great friends. Dan will be remembered as a man who was always a shoulder to cry on, someone to laugh with, an excellent father, an outstanding attorney, and a best friend to so many.

Donations may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church memorial fund in Dan's name or into a trust account that will be established later for his children.

The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville. Private funeral service will be held Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Knoxville.
