Obituary for David Edward Hurst

David Edward Hurst, age 60, of Tazewell, Tennessee, born February 25, 1960, was called to his heavenly home on December 25, 2020, while at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. He professed faith in Jesus Christ and received Him into his heart as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of the Caney Valley American Christian Church but attended Faithful Baptist Church in Bean Station, TN. Believing, having faith and receiving the gift of salvation empowered him to live his life in victory for God!

Everyone knew him as a kindhearted, loving person who never met a stranger. He loved talking to all his friends and family members, either over the telephone or in person. His loved ones could always depend on him to help them with anything they needed him to do. There was never a hesitation, on his part, as to what he would do for others. People will always remember him for the loving and caring person he portrayed himself to be to everyone who met him.

When he was twenty-six years old, his father passed away. From that time on, he knew he had to try to be both father and brother to his younger siblings. His mother worked to support them, while he put forth his strongest effort to be a caregiver to his family. He became a support system to his mother, brother and sister, and later, became the caregiver for his dear grandmother, who lived with him until her passing. To say he was heartwarming, kindhearted, brave, strong, smart, considerate, cheerful, easygoing, and dependable is such a profound statement of true words to describe him.

Throughout the years, he was self-employed with his catering service. He started his catering service on his own and was well known throughout several counties for his great tasting food. Working hard to take care of his family was an important part of his life. For a short time, he worked at Bob’s Florist in Maynardville, while still running his catering service for several businesses, family and friends. His own hard-working skills and determination made him a caregiver for his family and others who needed his help.

Peace has come to him as God has prepared his path for his next journey. He will be in a happy reunion when he enters into the gates of Heaven and gets to see his beautiful family members - mother, Phyllis Jean Hurst; father, Kenneth Hurst; brother, Gary Hurst; sister, Denise Hurst Caudill; paternal grandparents, Sam and Ella Mae Hurst; maternal grandparents, Theodore and Mary Powell; and other family and friends. His loved ones who will carry him in their hearts until they see him again are his special friend, Michael Swanner; special nephew, Avery Benson Caudill; brother-in-law, Mike Caudill; friend, Russell Gibbons; and a host of other family and friends who will miss talking to him almost every day and who considered him a loved one they could depend on when they needed a shoulder to lean on or needed a caring voice on the other end of the telephone to just listen to them. He certainly will be carried in the hearts of many.

The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Wednesday, December 30, 2020 with funeral service to follow at 7 pm Wednesday, Cooke-Campbell Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Jerry Epperson, Rev. Tommy Russell officiating with music by the Epperson Family and Karen Mutter. Interment 2 pm Thursday, Fairview Cemetery, New Tazewell. Pallbearers: Michael Swanner, Russell Gibbons, Mike Caudill, Rocky Manning, Kevin Loope. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.
