Obituary for Donald Leroy Seymour

Donald L. Seymour, 89, of Maynardville, TN passed away on January 15, 2021 due to complications from COVID-19. He was born in Portland, Oregon in 1931. He as a U. S. Army Veteran and a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. At the age of 18, he joined the United States Army – active duty. After completing his basic training, his military occupational specialty was Wheel Vehicle Repairman and was stationed in the 547th Ord Fld Main Co., in Rochefort, France. After two years there, he returned to the United States and transferred to the Army Active Reserves until his honorable discharge from the Army in 1959 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He also was in the Marines but there is no information readily available to share. He eventually moved to Atlanta, Georgia and obtained a job in 1967 working for the Atlanta Natural Gas Company. He worked hard and was Salesman of the Year numerous times. After 24 years of service, he retired in 1991 and moved his family to Sneedville, TN. He always wanted to be in the mountains. In his spare time, he enjoyed being with his family, reading the Bible, and meeting new people. He was a devoted father to his children and helped everyone who needed it.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Seymour of Oregon, his mother Wanda Welke of Lubelskie, Portland, brother Raymond L. Seymour of Kentucky, and sister Beverly Seymour VanZon of Washington.

He leaves behind his four children: Donald K. Seymour of Georgia, Elizabeth Baird (Trint) of Georgia, Jennifer Seymour Brake (Jeremy Brake) of Maryland, and Kayla C. Sexton (Chris) of Tennessee. Grandchildren: Joel Seymour, Amber Seymour, Brandi Sarah Barber, Nathan Baird, Kristen Max, Brayden D’Onofrio, Zoey Brake, Blake Sexton and Shayla Brooke Sexton, great grandchildren: Cambria Baird and Kal Baird, and a very special woman, Brenda Duffany who was his wife until 1998 and has been his sole caretaker for over 42 years. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all those he has touched in his amazing life. You will never be forgotten by many.

Military honors will be presented 2 P.M. Saturday, February 6, 2021 by Tri-County Veterans Honor Guard at Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.
