Obituary for Raymond Everett "Ray" McDonnell Jr.

Raymond Everett McDonnell, Jr.-age 71 of Maynardville went to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at his home. He attended Salem Baptist Church in Halls and was a retired professor of biology at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, Middlesboro, Kentucky. He held a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree and a Doctorate Degree in Life Sciences from the University of Tennessee. Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved life and helping others. He was very witty and comical at times and loved to share a funny story with family and friends. Ray was a creative individual and was considered a Jack-of-all trades. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. Preceded in death by parents: Raymond and Harriet McDonnell.

Survivors: wife of five years, Edwina Blair McDonnell of Maynardville; daughter, Carol Cobb and husband, Stephen of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; Sons, Raymond Everett McDonnell, III and wife, Lauren; Marshall McDonnell and wife, Rachel, all of Powell; four grandchildren, Caleb Cobb, Annabeth McDonnell, Noah McDonnell, Ethan McDonnell. Sister, Barbara Anderson and husband, Jack, brothers, Michael McDonnell and Mark McDonnell and wife, Lisa. Several nieces and nephews along with several special friends.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2022 with the funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. Saturday, Cooke-Campbell Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Allen James officiating with music by Janice Munsey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray’s memory to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee.
