Obituary for Roy Kenneth Wright

Roy Kenneth Wright, age 96, of Maynardville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 4, 2022. The son of Otis and Arkie Wright, Roy was born on June 10, 1926, in Sharps Chapel, TN. He was the third oldest of nine biological and two adopted siblings.
Roy was drafted in the army in 1944 and served his country in Germany until being honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was called back to duty in 1951 and served a year in Korea.
After returning from Korea, Roy made his way north to attend trade school in Chicago. From there, he moved to Kokomo, Indiana, where he worked at Chrysler’s Transmission Plant for 32 years, serving as both a floor supervisor and later as the Vice-president of the local UAW.
He moved to Maynardville in 1993 where he married Wanda Walker, who preceded him in death in 2018 as well as his older son Travis. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maynardville, and served on Planning Commission for the City of Maynardville. He was an avid golfer and loved collecting antiques and wood crafting.
He is survived by four brothers, Max Wright, Ralph Wright, Jack Wright, Arnie (Dot) Wright, son, Tyler, his daughter, Trina, his step-daughter and her husband Susan and Matt Hensley, his step-son and his wife, Bobbie and Denise Walker, four grandchildren, Eric (Amanda) Russell, Skyler Wright, Travis Wright, and Trenton Wright. He is also survived by two great grandchildren, Savannah Russell and Sarah Wright. He leaves many great family and friends behind, including nephew Allen Graves, Gail & Randy Sexton, and their two sons, Josh & Logan, Earl Howard, Billy & Debbie Cox, Judy & Dan Paidousis, Craig & Pam Baker, and his beloved church family.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 9, 2022, from 5-7pm at Cooke-Campbell Mortuary Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 7pm Friday, Pastor Corey Carroll officiating. Interment will take place on Saturday, December 10, at 11:00 at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville with full military honors presented by Tri-County Veterans Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to First Baptist Church. Pallbearers: Allen Graves, Eric Russell, Logan Sexton, Josh Sexton, Travis Wright, Trenton Wright.
