Obituary for Sharon Kay Johnson Washam

Sharon Kay Johnson Washam- age 51 of Maynardville gained her wings, became free, and entered heaven after years of struggling with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) at her home on Sunday, December 12, 2021.

ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function. In this disease, nerve cells break down, which reduces functionality in the muscles they supply.
The main symptom is muscle weakness. Medication and therapy can slow ALS and reduce discomfort, The cause is unknown and there is no cure.

Sharon was a member of Hickory Valley Baptist Church and a graduate of Horace Maynard High School, Class of 1988. Sharon was a sewing machine operator for years. She worked at England Corsair Furniture Company in New Tazewell before being diagnosed.

Mother-in-law: Linda Tharp Washam.

Survivors: Husband of 26 years, Richie Washam; stepson Derek Washam; step-grandchildren Avonlea Washam of Maynardville and Henley Washam of Luttrell.
Parents: Steve and Marie Johnson of Maynardville.
Brothers: Glen Johnson and wife, Kelsey; Scott Johnson; Kenny Johnson and wife, Jami.
Sisters: (Twin) Karen Anderson and husband, Virgil.
Sister-in-law’s: Cindy Johnson, Pam Roach and husband Dody.
Father-in-law: Lowell Washam.
Sharon leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends and coworkers.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Monday, December 13, 2021 with funeral services to follow at 7 p.m., Cooke-Campbell Mortuary Chapel.
Officiating: Rev. Robby Corum
Music: By Paul & Stephanie Carter and Jessica & Abbie Johnson.
Interment: 11am Tuesday, December 14, 2021, Big Barren Cemetery, Maynardville. Family and friends may meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday to go with the funeral procession.
Pallbearers: Scott, Kenny and Hunter Johnson, Andrew Anderson, Dody Roach & Anthony Williams.
Honorary Pallbearers: Thomas and Jordon Johnson, Henley Washam.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations and may be made to the funeral home, as an expression
of sympathy.
