Obituary for Vergie June Kitts

Beloved Mother, Mamaw, Grammy and Friend, Vergie J. Kitts went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 11, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones at Claiborne Medical Center. She was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. She was retired employee of the Union County School System and a graduate of Horace Maynard High School, Class of 1960. Preceded in death by husband, Verlin (Dick) Kitts; parents, Claude and Velma Hankins; brothers, Ricky and Kenneth Hankins; sister, Helen Weaver; grandson, Mathaniel Houston; son-in-law, Anthony Houston.

Survived by daughters, Carolyn (Gary) Criswell, Trish (Jeff) Nicely; sons, Ronnie Kitts (Diane Harmon); Dale (Mary) Kitts. Six grandchildren, Jessica (Lance) Hickle; Daniel (Carrie) Kitts, Samantha (Tyler) Clabo; Brian (Robin) Houston; Eric Houston (Courtney Wright); Chelsea (Jeremy) Johnson. 22 Great-Grandchildren. Sister, Vicky Elliot; brothers, David (Sue) Hankins; Bill (Betty) Hankins; sister-in-law, Jan Hankins; best friend, Sharon Drinnen, several nieces and nephews along with a host of friends and other family members.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2023 with the funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. Friday, Cooke-Campbell Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Daniel Kitts, Rev. Leon Nicely officiating with music by Rev. Richard and Linda Nicley. Interment 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023, Haynes Cemetery, Maynardville. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday to go with the funeral procession. Pallbearers: Rev. Daniel Kitts, Brian Houston, Eric Houston, Lance Hickle, Tyler Clabo, Jeremy Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers: Great-Grandson. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.
