Obituary for Wanda Lee Merritt Moyers

Wanda Merritt Moyers-age 82 of Maynardville went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, May 24, 2021. Wanda was a lifelong member of The Church of God of the Union Assembly, Luttrell and served for many years as a Sunday school teacher, coordinator of the church’s Christmas program, prepared countless meals at the church and known for her participation with the Red Velvet Cake church fundraising. She lived and loved to serve the Lord, Jesus Christ, to one day live with Him forever. She trusted and leaned on the Lord her whole life and instilled this strength into her family. Wanda was a faithful wife to her sweetheart, Benny and they enjoyed camping with the family and playing Phase 10. She loved to garden both flowers and food, canning food, and spend time with those she loved. Wanda is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Benny Moyers, her parents, Eula and Johnny Merritt; son, Steve Moyers, and her siblings Bruce (Mae) Merritt, Alvin (June) Merritt, Shelma Merritt-Martin, Paul Merritt, and Junior Merritt. The family would like to express a special thanks to Hannah Merritt, Tammy Merritt, and Dolly June Merritt for their extraordinary support and love the last several months; They held a special place in her heart.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise (Neesy) Bond and husband, James; son, Michael Moyers and wife, Darlene; daughter, Sherry West and husband, Martin; six grandchildren, Alicia (Mark) Newhouse, Kayla (Zach) Ragsdale, Martina Sturgill (fiancé Dyron Holt), Austin (Erica) Moyers, Whitney (Sam) Lawson, and Ben Moyers; seven great-grandchildren, Lexi Ragsdale, Eli Sturgill, Weston Newhouse, Lainey Ragsdale, Addy Newhouse, Lela Lawson, and Beckett Ragsdale; sister-in-law Dolly June Merritt, sister-in-law Cathy Merritt, brother- in-law Jack Moyers and wife, Darlene; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews that she sincerely loved.

Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2021, Mountain View Church of God of the Union Assembly, Rev. David Simmons, Rev. Paul Thomas Hughes officiating and nephew, Ricky Merritt will also speak with music by Mavis Hughes, Barry Gentry, Randy and Angie Merritt. The body will lie in state one hour before service. Interment will follow at Bookwalter Cemetery, 4218 Central Avenue Pike, Knoxville with Rev. LeBrandon Marie officiating. Serving as pallbearers, Wanda’s grandsons, Austin Moyers, Benjamin Moyers, Mark Newhouse, Zach Ragsdale, Sam Lawson and friend, Eddie Teems. Honorary Pallbearers: Nephews. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2021 at Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.
