Obituary for Verlin Joe Munsey

Verlin Joe Munsey-age 84 of Maynardville, born May 26, 1932 went to his heavenly home Friday, January 20, 2017 surrounded by his family. Verlin was saved and baptized at an early age and was a lifelong farmer and resident of the Hickory Valley Community in Union County. He was a retired employee of Tennessee Department of Transportation. Preceded in death by parents, Oscar and Jenny (Crawford) Munsey; wife, Ruby Buckner Munsey; infant son, Lonnie Munsey; son, Ken Buckner; grandson, Kenny Ray Buckner; brother, Ray Munsey; sisters, Faye Davis and Louise West.

Survived by his children, daughter, Linda “Tiny” Munsey and Mark Shell; son, Allen Buckner, all of Maynardville; son, Steven “Charlie” Munsey and wife, Marie of Sharps Chapel; his baby he adored, great-granddaughter, Ivy Buckner; Mickey Graves that he loved as a daughter, all of Maynardville. Grandchildren, Jason Buckner of Crossville; Cheryl (Roy) Lowe of Knoxville. Great-grandchildren, McKayla, April and Crystal; brothers, Milburn “Duck” Munsey and wife, Imogene of Maynardville; Milton “Bill” Munsey of Indiana; sisters, Mary Jane Brogan, Maynardville; Gaynell Montgomery and husband, Dewey of Knoxville. Several nieces and nephews, a host of friends and a community of children who called him Papaw.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2017 with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. Monday, Cooke-Campbell Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Richard Nicley officiating with music by Linda Nicley. Interment 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017, Buckner Cemetery, Maynardville. Family and friends will meet 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home to go in the procession. Pallbearers: Allen Buckner, Charlie Munsey, Mark Shell, Tim Munsey, Ralph Hackney, Boyd Smith. The family will gather at the home of Charlie and Marie Munsey in Sharps Chapel. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.
