My sweet friend

I met Mike Shelton many many years ago when the band Austin Rail started playing at the Cosby music barn. I fell in love With the guys in the band and their families. Mike was the sweetest man I had ever met, when he talked to you he made you feel like you were the only person in the whole room. Back then it was Butch, Mike, Steve, Norman and Ronnie, after awhile Butch left the band and in came Tim Childress as the lead singer. Needless to say we all fell in love with him as well, he fit in just perfect! Later down the line Tim's wife Sandy joined the group also. After many years the music barn closed down and we were so sad that we had to all go our separate ways. The main story that I wanted to share about Mike is how much he truly cared about people. A little over four years ago my oldest grandson Zach passed away after a three year battle with cancer. There was a website called caringbridge that Zach was listed on that was for kids with terminal illnesses. Mike didn't know Zach, had never seen him but he started posting on Zach's caringbridge site almost everyday. It was always very uplifting messages and he always ended with " you are my hero." Before Zach died Mike made a special trip to my work to ask about Zach and to give me one of those special Mike hugs and tell me that he loved me. I will never forget my sweet friend Mike Shelton.
